Event Details

THE FIRST EVER UK SALSA MARATHON was originally organised for May 2020 but the Global covid -19 problems forced its cancellation.

The New date for the UK Salsa Marathon is finally here. This 3 day event of Pure Salsa Social Dancing is the one to put in the diary without any doubt. Yes just Social Dancing, no performance shows and no teachers to break up the day.

Time -
Friday 13th May
- from 6pm until 7pm a welcome drink (Prosecco Bellini) and dancing from 6pm until midnight - 6 hours to ease you into the weekend
Saturday 14th May - from Noon until 1am, thats 13 full hours of dancing
Sunday 15th May - from 3pm until 11pm thats a third day of 8 hours of full Social Salsa Dancing.
This 27 hour Spectacular is filled with nothing but One on One Social Dancing.
This first ever UK Salsa Marathon will be an event not to be missed and at a very affordable price.

Location -
Crigglestone WMC - Same Venue as the Monthly Salsa Mambo Party (WF4 3EB Postcode)
This amazing event space for up to 300 Dancers, has a newly refurbished wooden Dance floor which is perfect for Social Salsa and plenty of seating around the floor to accomodate your every wish.

It is situated 3 minutes from junction 39 of the M1 motorway with 4 Hotels a stones throw away, the venue has ample free car parking at the rear.

There are many other shops and amenities in the village and Wakefield town centre within 7 minutes so plenty to do if you need a quick break.

Food - Included within the Ticket Cost - (Vouchers are supplied on entry for Food on the day)
Drinks are available at very reasonable prices from the bar, at no point are you allowed to bring your own drinks into the venue.

Friday - from 6pm until 7pm a welcome drink (Prosecco Bellini) and dancing from 6pm until midnight - 6 hours to ease you into the weekend
Saturday - Between the hours of 5pm to 7pm there will be a Gourmet Street Food van in the car park and another Buffet Style food arrangment will be fully provided within the venue.
Sunday -  Between the hours of 6pm to 7.30pm there will be a Yorkshire Fish Supper Food Truck. in the car park and again another Buffet Style food arrangment will be provided within the venue.

There are 5-6 Hotels within 1.5 miles so no excuse to stay at home, this 26 hour long dance event cannot be missed and will be something to talk about all summer long.
Each of the Hotels are close to the venue, 75% of these are within 3-4 mins drive only.

Parking
Car Parking is very easy, the Venue has a very sensible free car park.

Ticketing Restrictions
tickets are non-refundable, however should any circumstance  arise whereby you cannot attend the tickets can be ,with written permission, transfered to someone else. Message through facebook or instagram for this. karenmcquire@yahoo.com.

With the current Covid pandemic still not over we reserve the right to cancel this event, all tickets will be refunded however we cannot be held account for accomodation expenses incured.

The DJ's

Sassia Michel

Sassia though from London, was born in Jacmel, Haiti, and got her love for Latin music through listening to music with her mother. Sassia would make her debut at the re-knowned London Salsa School TNT in 2009 where she would later become a resident DJ, and has remained a fixture in the London Salsa scene for over 10 years; Sassia regularly shares her love for music at the world famous SOS, Pexava, Funky Mambo, House of Mambo, and Revolution among others. Sassia has also been blessed to have shared her music at many international events, including being a regular at the Valbonne Salsa Festival, Paris Latin Box Night, and over a weekend at the Heidelberg Mambo Marathon; all of this for her love of Salsa music. Sassia has an unwavering passion for Salsa music and her Funky Vibe and infectious music means that she has left a distinctive mark on events, dance floors and Salsa dancers.

Eddie Hunt

Abanico Salsa provides many monthly and quarterly salsa events to the whole of the South West of England, with classes and parties based in both Bristol and Clevedon. He co-hosts the Montuno Monthly, as well the co creator, host and resident DJ of the Southwest’s first 100% vinyl night ‘Saturday Shingaling’. His dance nights are just as much about the music as well as the dancing.
 Eddie has been a guest DJ at The Yorkshire Salsa Congress, Salsology in Manchester, Alchemy in Basingstoke, NYC in Selby, Selly Oak (Latin Motion) Birmingham, Salsa at the Pier in Weston Super Mare which regularly has 350+ plus dancers in attendance and Bristol Salsa Congress, to name a few

DJ Lubi

Lubi b&w old school 2008 Jazz CafeDJ Lubi (Lubi Jovanovic) is one of the UK’s best known salsa and Latin music DJs both at home and abroad. He is also a long time jazz/soul/funk/world music DJ and live music promoter. His career spans over 30 years working in all aspects of the business – international DJ, live music promoter, club promoter, radio presenter, record label PR and CD compiler. He began in 1982 spinning Mongo Santamaria/Tito Puente/Art Blakey/Tania Maria records in Bradford in the north of England as part of the UK jazzdance movement – hard bop, jazz fusion, samba batucada and mambo – and was soon running weekly sessions in the city including The Jazz Cellar (a DJ and live band night) and Wild Style (two floors – one rap/electro, the other jazz/Latin – breakers and jazz hoofers battling it out under one roof). By 1986, he was promoting his first salsa clubnight, Club Afro Latino in Leeds, one of the earliest outside London, plus guesting as a DJ across the country, playing bass in local jazz groups and leading his own Latin jazz bands. In the 1980s, DJ Lubi was also a working musician.

Rupert's passion for Salsa music shines through in the energy that he brings as a DJ, this makes him a favourite with dancers everywhere.
Hes been a music collector for many years and has specialisted in vinyl salsa for over 14 years.
Rupert is the host and organiser of Revolution Salsa Social - one of London's most popular social events. He regularly DJs at events in London and around the UK. He is also a regular on the international scene performaing at parties congresses and salsa marathons such as SalSounds (Pairs) , Mambo Fever (Geneva), La Malanga (Madrid), Salsa P'al Bailador (A Coruna), and Istanbul Social Dance Marathon amonst others.
He is a presenter of the weekly radio show 'Que Barbaridad' on Our Salsa Radio and is also a frequent guest on Salsa Lockdown Radio.
Rupert is Super excited to be visiting Salsa Uniuty again and be part oif the First UK Salsa Marathon.
