Why dancers drive to Wakefield

Events for dancers,
run by a dancer.

01

100% salsa. 100% top DJs.

Tuli Mar. Eddie Hunt. Rupert Boyle. Lubi Jovanovic. Tony Crossbody. We book the DJs the DJs go to see, and we don't water the music down.

02

Walk in alone, leave with a crew.

Most of our regulars came on their own the first time. Salsa is social: you'll be asked to dance, you'll ask back, and the floor sorts the rest.

03

A class before the party.

On class nights a guest teacher runs a session at 7:45pm so you've got moves to use by nine. No partner needed. No experience needed.

04

Three minutes off the M1.

Junction 39, free parking at the back, a Premier Inn two minutes away. Dancers come from Leeds, Sheffield, Manchester, Hull and further.

How a SalsaUnity night goes

From "I'm not sure" to "one more song".

Doors. Say hi to Karen on the door, grab a drink, change your shoes.
  2. 7:45
Class (on class nights). A guest teacher, partners rotate, nobody is left out.
  3. 9:00
The DJ takes over. The floor fills. Someone asks you to dance before you've finished your drink.
  4. 11:00
Peak. Three hundred people, one song, the mirror ball doing its thing.
  5. 1:00

Meet Karen

"I'm a dancer first and a promoter second."

Karen 'Salsa' McQuire started dancing in 2013, spent two years driving the length of the country for the best teachers, and in 2015 decided to bring them home to Yorkshire instead.

11 years later, SalsaUnity has hosted the Yorkshire Salsa Congress, the UK Salsa Marathon, all-day spectaculars with world-class artists, and a monthly party that dancers from across the North plan their month around. She still greets you on the door.

Karen's story
